Shaufler Prize in Journalism - Recognizes the Best Journalism

S tudents please consider entering your work in the Shaufler Prize in Journalism, now in its third year. The Shaufler Prize recognizes the best journalism in the country that advances the understanding of stories and issues related to underserved people in society, such as communities of color, immigrants, LGBTQ+, the disabled community and more. The emphasis is on great storytelling on any platform, be it print, digital, audio/radio or television. The best entry from a student enrolled in an accredited journalism program in the U.S. receives  a $5,000 prize . Other awards will be given in a category for professional journalists. Last year, the top prize went to “ Mega Billions: The Great Lottery Wealth Transfer ,” produced by the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism at the University of Maryland that explored how state lotteries intentionally sucked wealth out of poorer, often Black or Hispanic neighborhoods, transferring billions of dollars to multinational companies no longer

  The John N. Gardner Institute for Excellence in Undergraduate Education (Gardner Institute) is looking for an Intern for Spring 2024!   Interns are given the opportunity to collaborate alongside the Gardner Institute staff on work related to student success and increasing equity in higher education. Each intern is expected to work  10-15 hours per week and  complete a project by the end of their term.    For Spring 2024, the Gardner Institute is looking for a student intern to work with our  Curricular Analytics Community . The internship will largely consist of compiling information to be used in a collection documenting approaches to curricular redesign. Student interns will work with guidance from the Gardner staff to plan, design, and gather information for the collection. Plan Now for 2024 MADE Internships! The application for our   Marketing and Advertising Education (MADE) Internship Program   is now open! The program functions as the “common app” for marketing and advertising internships. Students submit one application through the AEF, and if accepted, they’re eligible for internships with our many industry partners (client-side marketers, agencies, media companies, among others). Current juniors and seniors with U.S. work authorization are encouraged to apply.   The application has a priority deadline of October 20 th  and will completely close on January 26 th , 2024  so please encourage your top students to apply as soon as possible.   Our team is hosting three informational sessions to answer any questions your students may have.
